Never Seen Such Horror: Hurricane Ian victims

FORT MYERS, FL

The horror Florida witnessed is palpable on every street, in people’s eyes and their quivering voices. Stench from rotting bodies hangs heavy in the air after Hurricane Ian’s 151 miles/hour winds killed at least 120, while more than 10,000 people remain unaccounted for.

Florida seems to have turned into a huge junkyard of ripped homes, boats, cars and buildings — all reduced to debris. UNITED SIKHS teams are wading through the chaos to reach out to distressed families to provide them emergency aid.

To make it easier for the storm-affected people to access the emergency aid they need, we have set up our base camp in Fort Myers, providing bottled water, food, essential and emergency supplies. Bottled water is especially in high demand, since water in the entire area has become unfit for drinking after the storm.

Our volunteers are also reaching out to the distressed families door-to-door, providing essentials including non-perishable food items, water, fruits, vegetables, etc, and giving them hope and support.

Homes that were not completely razed by the storm still suffered severe damage from flooding.

Gurvinder Singh, UNITED SIKHS Humanitarian Aid Director, who has been juggling with meeting the needs of the refugees in Ukraine, flood impacted lives of millions in Pakistan and now the Florida’s tragedy, appealed to the world community to send in relief and monetary support for the victims.

Gurpeet Singh, CEO, UNITED SIKHS who reached Florida immediately after the disaster said, “People must step forward to support in every way they can. Your support is critical to help the distressed families, who have lost everything, including their homes.”

For volunteer opportunities, please contact our humanitarian aid base camp at Fort Myers at contact@unitedsikhs.org

Please help people of Florida rebuild their lives.
