UNITED SIKHS Expands Lifesaving Support in Punjab as Flood Threats Intensify

Punjab, India | August 31, 2025

As floodwaters continue to engulf vast regions of Punjab, UNITED SIKHS has deepened its emergency response, mobilizing dozens of additional volunteers and resources across multiple districts of the state. Our Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) remain active in the field, delivering urgent care, essential supplies, and much needed moral support to families displaced by the disaster.

As of August 29, 11:00 AM IST, dam levels remain dangerously high:

Dam  Level Inflow Outflow

Pong Dam1392 feet53,000 cusecs101,000 cusecs
Ranjit Sagar Dam525 meters47,000 cusecs74,000 cusecs

While inflow has slightly decreased, offering temporary relief, forecasts from the India Meteorological Department warn of continued heavy rainfall in hilly regions over the coming weeks. Communities in submerged and low-lying areas must remain vigilant. Immediate survival support and sustained relief are urgently needed.

In District Firozpur, UNITED SIKHS has been operating since August 13 with a dedicated team of 15 volunteers. Relief efforts have reached nine flood-affected villages: Nihala Lawera, Dhira Ghara, Tali Gulam, Ladhu ki Basti, Kale Ke Hithar, Mutianwala, Sultanwala, Nizamwala, and Basti Ramlaal. The team has:

  • Rescued 2,000 individuals using UNITED SIKHS boats, operating everyday until 2:00 AM
  • Served nearly 1,200 people with hot meals
  • Delivered 900 liters of clean drinking water
  • Supplied 1,250 quintals of fodder for livestock

These efforts reflect the scale and urgency of the crisis and the unwavering commitment of UNITED SIKHS volunteers to serve with compassion and courage.

Across flood-affected regions, UNITED SIKHS teams continue to reach families stranded in submerged zones wading through deep water to deliver essential aid.

Cooked meals are being prepared and distributed near relief sites and

Gurdwaras, ensuring that thousands receive nourishment and comfort each day. Alongside food, volunteers are providing protective coverings, clean water, and sanitation supplies to help restore a sense of safety and dignity.
