UNITED SIKHS organized a special program called ‘Anhad Jhunkar’ aims to bring together 300 young voices to sing divine Gurbani shabads (hymns) in perfect harmony. This event was part of a larger initiative under the Galwakkdi project, which focuses on helping children connect with their Sikh heritage through Gurbani kirtan, Gatka, Sikh history, and values.

The objective was to prepare these children for the ‘Anhad Jhunkar’ event, ensuring they were well-versed in singing 12 shabads while playing traditional instruments like the harmonium and tabla. The event also aimed to build on the success of the earlier ‘Ghar Ghar Nitnem Kanth Lehar’ campaign, where children learned the Nitnem Banis and their meanings.

Over two months, children from 12 different locations practiced diligently under the guidance of dedicated Gurbani teachers. These teachers and volunteers played a crucial role in mentoring the children, helping them perfect their singing and instrumental skills. The team also worked to instill a deeper understanding of Sikh prayers and the significance of Gurbani in the children’s lives.

The ‘Anhad Jhunkar’ program was a resounding success, with 300 children coming together to perform Gurbani shabads in unison. This event not only showcased the children’s dedication and the effectiveness of the Galwakkdi project but also reinforced the importance of connecting the next generation with their spiritual roots. The UNITED SIKHS Panjab Director, Amritpal Singh, highlighted the significance of this achievement and announced the next goal of teaching the children raag-based Gurbani kirtan. Through initiatives like these, UNITED SIKHS continues to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to quality education, reduced inequalities, and the promotion of peace and justice.
