Dear Compassionate Supporter,
I hope this message finds you in good health. Today, I write to you with a heavy heart as we witness the escalating devastation caused by the floods in Panjab. Our dedicated team on the ground has been working tirelessly to expand the reach of our emergency relief efforts, providing aid to numerous villages and towns in all afected regions. However, the magnitude of this crisis demands an even more substantial response.
In the past few days alone, our teams have ventured into flood-affected areas, delivering essential relief to hundreds in the villages and towns of Rupnagar, Anandpur Sahib, Kiratpur Sahib, Chamkaur Sahib, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and other regions bordering Panjab. We have witnessed firsthand the dire conditions faced by the flood victims, who are grappling with prevalent skin infections, allergies, fever, diarrhea, and other medical conditions.
Our teams are providing ration and emergency relief to flood-affected families.
It is truly heart-wrenching to see the anguish in the eyes of those who have lost everything. Jaswant Kaur, a survivor from Surtapur Mand village, shared her despair: “We were barely making ends meet, and now, with the scale of destruction, the shelter over our heads is also destroyed. We didn’t know where our next meal would come from. In these trying times, you have reached out to hold our hand.” Baljit Kaur, a stroke survivor, couldn’t contain her tears of gratitude when she received our emergency relief kits. These poignant stories remind us of the urgent need to do more.
Even amidst the chaos, there are rays of hope. Manvir Kaur from UNITED SIKHS Australia selflessly volunteered to reach out to the affected people. She expressed disbelief at the vulnerability of Panjab’s residents, who have always stood in support of others during crises and calamities. “Now, it is our turn to stand in solidarity and support these families whose homes and livelihoods have been decimated. We must unite, irrespective of borders or backgrounds, to provide the assistance they desperately need.”
In Jalandhar district, our teams have been tirelessly providing medical aid in villages such as Janian, Gatta Mundi Kasu and the Dhakka Basti area in Shahkot block. The breach of the earthen embankment near Janian village has caused immense damage, with over 43 houses washed away and precious livestock lost. Our dedicated volunteers have coordinated closely with NDRF to reach disconnected villages, ensuring vital medical aid and emergency supplies are delivered to those in need. We are also working in collaboration with environmentalist and MP Balbir Singh Seechewal to ensure that the most affected villages receive the necessary medical assistance. SDM Vikas Hira expressed his gratitude for our team’s efforts, and we are now setting up a camp near Janian village to provide langar (community kitchen) and medicines to the villagers involved in repairing the embankment.
Medicines and ambulances are being rushed across flood-affected areas to relieve the victims from skin infections, allergies, and other health problems.
To prevent further loss of cattle, which have also perished in the floods, we are expediting the delivery of over 50 quintals of fodder to the affected regions in Sangrur, Lohian and surrounding areas each with more being prepared. Additionally, our South Delhi teams are providing emergency relief to the flood-affected villages and towns in Ambala district.
Fodder is being sent in villages to save livestock.
We are sparing no effort to ensure that maximum relief supplies, clothes, and medicines reach all flood-affected regions in Panjab. Our first satellite center in Ludhiana is being leveraged to deliver essential aid to the affected areas according to their urgent requirements in shortest possible time.
Today, I implore you to join us in this critical mission of compassion and support. Panjab is experiencing suffering on an enormous scale, with homes and livelihoods lost, and countless lives shattered. As individuals who believe in humanity and identify themselves as Panjabi, regardless of where we reside in the world, it is our solemn duty to stand shoulder to shoulder and extend a helping hand to alleviate the suffering of our fellow brothers and sisters affected by these catastrophic floods.
