UNITED SIKHS Presents

Sikhs Stand in Solidarity with the City of Manchester

On a Monday night in Manchester, England, a deadly suicide bombing occurred during a concert at Manchester Arena, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring 64 others, including several children. The tragedy left the community in shock and despair, as many struggled to find their loved ones amidst the chaos.

In the wake of the attack, UNITED SIKHS and members of the local Sikh community recognized the urgent need to provide comfort, relief, and support to those affected by the bombing. Their goal was to offer immediate assistance to the victims and show solidarity with the Manchester community during this tragic time.

Through the support of the community, Sikhs in the area quickly mobilized to act as first responders. Many opened the doors of nearby Gurdwaras, offering shelter, hot meals (langar), and other forms of assistance to concertgoers and their families. Some Sikhs, like AJ Singh, a local taxi driver, provided free rides to those who were stranded, taking them to hospitals and other safe locations. The following day, the Sikh community continued to extend their support by serving refreshments and standing in solidarity with the thousands who gathered in Albert Square for a community vigil. Their presence at the vigil was met with a warm welcome from residents, further strengthening the bond between the Sikh community and the people of Manchester.

The swift response from UNITED SIKHS and the local Sikh community brought comfort and relief to many in Manchester during a time of great need. Their actions not only provided immediate assistance to those affected but also conveyed a powerful message of unity and resilience. UNITED SIKHS urged all members of the Sikh community, supporters, and residents of the United Kingdom to remain prayerful and vigilant, but not to live in fear, standing together in the face of adversity.
