UNITED SIKHS Deepens Flood Relief Efforts in Punjab as Village Displacement and Crop Loss Escalate

Panjab, India | September 6, 2025

As floodwaters continue to devastate communities across Panjab, UNITED SIKHS has expanded its humanitarian operations to meet the growing needs of displaced families, stranded livestock, and overwhelmed local infrastructure. With more than 22 years of experience working with UN organs and affiliated NGOs, it is clear that rehabilitation will take place in a three-phased roadmap aligned with the on-going disaster relief efforts on the ground. In the first phase with over 1,000 villages impacted and dam discharges remaining dangerously high, the organization’s teams are working around the clock to save lives, deliver lifesaving aid and restore dignity to those affected.

In Ferozepur District, one of the hardest-hit regions, 50-100 villages have been submerged, and 10,806 hectares of farmland destroyed, leaving entire communities without shelter or livelihood. Villages such as Kaluwala, Tendi Wala, Bagge Wala, Nihala Lavera, Nihala Kilcha, Habib Ke, and Gatti Rajo Ke have reported widespread displacement and urgent need for food, water, and medical care.

“We reached villages before formal aid arrived,” said a UNITED SIKHS field coordinator. “Boats were deployed to rescue families, deliver supplies, and relocate sacred saroops of Guru Granth Sahib from flooded gurdwaras. Our ambulance services continue to transport the sick to safety.”

UNITED SIKHS affirms that this is not merely a short-term response – it is a sustained commitment to serve. The organization remains firmly rooted on the ground, working hand in hand with affected communities and trusted partners to restore safety, rebuild lives, and uphold the dignity of every individual impacted by the floods. Through coordinated efforts with local gurdwaras, grassroots networks, and humanitarian allies, UNITED SIKHS continues to deliver critical aid where it’s needed most.

UNITED SIKHS continues to welcome donations of urgently needed supplies including clothing, blankets, non-perishable food, clean drinking water, fresh fruits, and medical items. Financial contributions are also vital to sustain food distribution, mobile medical services, and shelter support. For details on how to contribute, please visit unitedsikhs.org/donate.
