Our mission was to ensure the timely delivery of life-saving aid to those in desperate need, overcoming the challenges of difficult terrain and volatile conditions. We sought to demonstrate our commitment to serving humanity impartially, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or background, in accordance with Sikh tenets.
While en route from Shillong to Churachandpur, the humanitarian aid truck met with an unfortunate accident, falling into a gorge after hitting a pothole caused by a landslide. Thankfully, the driver and a volunteer on board escaped with minor injuries, and most of the relief materials were successfully recovered with the help of local residents.
Despite this setback, our resilient team resumed their five-day journey through treacherous terrain to ensure that the aid reached the victims. This effort was part of the first batch of relief materials organized by UNITED SIKHS, including rations and medical supplies.
UNITED SIKHS Director, Mohinderjit Singh, reaffirmed our commitment to impartial humanitarian aid, stating, “As a UN-affiliated organization experienced in emergency responses, we extend our support to all communities in need. Following the Sikh principle of recognizing humanity as one, we strive to bring relief to those suffering, regardless of their identity.”
Despite the challenges, our efforts brought critical aid to over 40,000 individuals affected by the crisis in Manipur. This initiative underscored the Sikh community’s dedication to helping those in need, even amidst adversity. It is a reflection of our shared humanity and the global responsibility to support marginalized and underprivileged communities. With the assistance of our donors and volunteers, we continue to provide hope and relief to those enduring hardship.
