UNITED SIKHS Extends Medical Aid to Protesting Farmer

Farmers in India have been protesting the new farm laws, which they believe are detrimental to their rights and livelihoods. Despite facing immense challenges, including harsh weather, injuries, and personal loss, the farmers remain steadfast in their demand to repeal these laws. The agricultural sector in India has been suffering for years, with many farmers trapped in cycles of debt and bankruptcy, leading to one of the highest farmer suicide rates in the world. In 2019 alone, over 10,000 farmers died by suicide, a crisis that has particularly worsened in Punjab.

UNITED SIKHS recognized the urgent need to support the protesting farmers, especially in light of the rising number of injuries and the impact of the cold weather. Their mission was to provide immediate medical assistance and ensure the well-being of the farmers, many of whom lacked access to healthcare while demonstrating at the borders.

In response, UNITED SIKHS set up medical camps and deployed ambulance services at key protest sites, including the Kundli and Tikri Borders in Delhi. They appointed a team of doctors who worked tirelessly to offer free medical care to the injured farmers. These efforts were focused on providing not only emergency care but also ongoing medical support to ensure the health and safety of the protestors.

Over 2,500 farmers received critical medical attention through the services provided by UNITED SIKHS. The organization’s timely intervention helped alleviate some of the hardships faced by the protestors, offering them hope and support during a challenging period. The medical camps became a vital lifeline, ensuring that the farmers could continue their fight for justice with the assurance that their health was being cared for.
