UNITED SIKHS launches a Free Health and Medical Camp in Panjab Border Village

In October 2016, tensions in the border districts of Gurdaspur and Taran Tarn led to the displacement of many villagers who were forced into evacuation camps. This situation resulted in the neglect of their health, as many had not seen a doctor for years, raising significant concern among volunteers from UNITED SIKHS. Recognizing the urgent need for medical and health services in these communities, UNITED SIKHS aimed to provide essential healthcare to these villagers. The challenge was to organize a medical camp that would address their health needs and offer free medical services to those affected.
With support from the President of Gurdwara Tahli Sahib and members of Gurdwara Sahib, a historic Gurdwara in village Gahlri, UNITED SIKHS launched its first free health and medical camp on August 27, 2017. Volunteers coordinated with medical professionals, including Dr. Rajesh Kashyap (ENT Specialist), Dr. Harjit Singh (Ayurvedic Doctor), and Dr. S.P. Singh (Dental Surgeon), who provided their services voluntarily. UNITED SIKHS ensured that medicines were distributed free of cost.
The medical camp was a success, with 164 patients registering and receiving treatment. Feedback from Dr. Rajesh Kashyap, the Medical In-charge, highlighted the positive impact of the camp and the intent to improve future camps. Karambir Singh, the UNITED SIKHS Gurdaspur Camp Coordinator, expressed hopes of continuing the camp every month if demand persists. Since 1999, UNITED SIKHS has been conducting similar health and medical camps globally, aiming to uplift underprivileged communities in times of disaster and need. The organization continues to seek volunteers and donations to support its mission.
