UNITED SIKHS was prompt to initiate a humanitarian mission through its Sikh Aid program to provide critical support to those affected by Hurricane Helene. The mission focused on delivering essential supplies, collaborating with local organizations, and ensuring relief reached underserved areas like Asheville.
UNITED SIKHS quickly coordinated with FEMA and Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) to assess the damage and streamline relief efforts. They partnered with Gurdwara Sahib Charlotte and local Sikh communities to establish a disaster relief center for collecting and distributing supplies. In Asheville and surrounding areas, the team delivered essential items like food, water, medicines, heaters, and propane tanks. Volunteers also provided hot meals, dehumidifiers, and charcoal to affected families.
The relief mission began with an Ardaas (prayer) to Sri Guru Granth Sahib, symbolizing the community’s commitment to service. Collaboration with local churches, fire departments, and other partners amplified efforts, allowing direct outreach to rural communities.
UNITED SIKHS’ efforts brought timely relief to hundreds of families, offering essential supplies and emotional support to those in dire need. The grassroots collaboration highlighted the resilience of the Carolinas’ communities and the generosity of volunteers. By engaging directly with victims, UNITED SIKHS not only addressed immediate needs but also restored hope and comfort. The relief operations continue, reflecting a sustained commitment to rebuilding lives and fostering solidarity in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
