Around 300 years ago, during the 1705 attack on Anandpur Sahib by Mughal invaders, Bhai Ghanaiya ji, a devoted Sikh under the guidance of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, set an inspiring example. Amidst the chaos of battle, he offered water and medical assistance not only to his allies but also to wounded enemy soldiers. His selfless actions, guided by Sikh principles of compassion, earned the admiration of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who entrusted him with medicine to further aid all injured individuals, regardless of their side. This inspiration drives UNITED SIKHS to constantly serve every community around the world including war strucken Ukraine.
After nine months of offering humanitarian aid in Ukraine, UNITED SIKHS recognized a critical gap in how civilians handle medical emergencies. To address this, we initiated Emergency Medical Training (EMT) programs in Ukraine’s border regions. These programs provide hands-on training in life-saving techniques, including wound treatment, fracture care, airway management, evacuation procedures, and protection against hypothermia. Our first train-the-trainer program reached 50 civilians, equipping them with the skills to handle medical emergencies and teach others in their communities.
Although our first training session impacted 50 individuals, the need is far greater. UNITED SIKHS is committed to expanding this program to cover more terrain and reach more civilians, as the threat to innocent lives continues to grow. Inspired by Bhai Ghanaiya Ji’s compassion and resilience, we are dedicated to acting swiftly to protect and empower vulnerable communities in conflict zones.
