UNITED SIKHS Youth Team Serving in Kenya

UNITED SIKHS young volunteers has been actively engaged in providing the humanitarian aidto various region in Africa, with focus on Kenya. We recognised the pressing need for assistance in areas where all age groups were poverty stricken and malnourished. A team of volunteers of UNITED SIKHS from US provided urgent assistance through logistics and expanded their humanitarian efforts in the region.

Under the leadership of Jaswinder Kaur Benawra, the Director of UNITED SIKHS in Kenya, the organization aimed to address critical issues highlighted by the United Nations, such as access to clean water, education, healthcare, and support for vulnerable children. The goal was to implement sustainable projects that would have a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of Kenyans.

 

everal key initiatives were launched under Benawra’s stewardship:

  • The construction of three borewells to provide drinking water to 5,000 families in Mbita District, Ukambani, and Komarock of Machakos district, with the support of the Ramgarhia Youth Association.
  • Securing 2.5 acres of land donated by the Government of Kenya for the construction of a hospital in Rusinga, Nyanza province.
  • Initiating the construction of a secondary school for 240 children, with completion slated for 2021, at an approximate cost of 620,000 USD.
  • Building the “Africa Hope Center,” a home for 120 HIV-positive children, while fully sponsoring the education of six children at a cost of 3,000 USD per year.
  • Additionally, healthcare projects such as eye surgeries were coordinated, benefiting over 2,000 individuals.

 

These efforts significantly improved the quality of life for thousands of people in Kenya. Jaswinder Kaur Benawra was recognized for her distinguished service to the country with the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya. The ongoing initiatives, supported by individual donors and local volunteers, continue to bring hope and resources to communities in need. The visit from the USA-based UNITED SIKHS directors further solidified the organization’s commitment to expanding its humanitarian mission across Africa, touching the lives of many more in need. Gurvinder Singh, UNITED SIKHS Director from Texas, emphasized the organization’s unwavering dedication to global humanitarian efforts, fueled by the faith and support of the Sikh community.
